Purpose of consultancy: | To legal Representation before Courts |
Scope of Work: | The Lawyer/Law firm is required to provide effective legal representation services to vulnerable women for cases referred by RENEW and NCWC. The Lawyer/Law firm is required to prepare documentation required for effective legal representation services to vulnerable women for cases referred by RENEW and NCWC. |
Duration and working schedule: | 1 November 2021 to 31 December 2021 |
Minimum Academic Education | Have a minimum of law DegreeHave completed the Post Graduate Diploma in National Law |
Certification requirement | Bar Council Certificate Trade license or Consultancy license to undertake legal practice |
Work Experience | Prior experience in legal practice is encouraged |
Place where services are to be delivered: | The services must be rendered for cases in Thimphu, Paro, Punakha, and Wangdiphodrang. |
Monitoring and progress control, including reporting requirements. | The consultant must report on the developments of the case referred by RENEW or NCWC (whichever agency has made the referral) |
Responsibilities of consultant | Review and assess the case and prepare the analysis report within three days of the referral of the case The consultant shall always maintain Privacy and confidentiality and shall not disclose any material information without the consent of the client (the victims/parties referred by RENEW or NCWC)The consultant must limit the adjournments to bare minimum and must seek adjournments only if it adds value to the case. The consultant shall extend Priority to the case before any other case within its purview. The consultant must ensure adherence to the due process of law required of a professional legal professional. The consultant must ensure adherence to code of conduct of Jambi strictly The consultant must seek engagement with specialists (psychologists,counsellors) if those engagement will add value to the caseThe consultant must actively engage the clients for preparation of all the submissions to courtThe consultant must ensure that the victims are not revictimized during their engagement with clients unless it becomes very pertinent to making the case stronger Drafting and preparing court submissions and other documents for the courtEffectively communicate with RENEW or NCWC focal officerspertaining to any issues regarding a referred case.The consultant is required to take a minimum of 25 cases referred either by RENEW or NCWC |
Supervisory arrangements: | The focal officers shall be Ms. Dechen Choki, Legal Officer, RENEW &Ms. Ugyen Tshomo, Sr legal officer, NCWC |
Expected travel: | The consultants will be required to travel if the Courts summon the legal representative. However, the use of eLitigation is strongly encouraged which will curtail the travel requirement. |
Required expertise, qualifications and competencies, including language requirements: | Bar Council of Bhutan CertificationValid Trade licenseFluent in Dzongkha and EnglishExcellent writing skills in Dzongkha |
Inputs/services to be provided by RENEW or NCWC, if applicable: | Administrative Support services office space for client interviews |
Payment Mode | 50 % on signing of the contract 50 % on completion of the required number of cases |
Documents to be submitted | Personal CV indicating all past positions held and their main underlying functions, their durations (month/year), the qualifications, as well as the contact details (email and telephone number) of the Candidate, and at least one (1) the most recent professional references of previous supervisors. References may also include peers.RENEW may ask (ad hoc) for any other materials relevant to pre-assessing the relevance of their experience. |
Other relevant information or special conditions, if any: | The consultant must ensure adherence with RENEW Policies. |
Termination of consultancy | Breach of the conditions of the Contract shall lead to the termination of the contract |
