Welcome note by Mrs.Tshering Dolkar,Offg.Executive Director:
This mega fair is from the 15th – 19th November, 2019 and theme is “Empower Women to end Violence against Women and children”. As we all are aware, that, RENEW was founded by Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuk, in 2004, as a non-profit organization dedicated to the empowerment of women and children in the country, with special attention to the survivors of domestic violence and sexual & gender based violence (SGBV). As per the record maintained, RENEW in a span of over ten years has handled over 3200 cases touching closed to 12600 individuals. An informal service costing done by the office reveal that, an estimated cost of Nu.7120/- per person is being invested for the survivors at free of cost.
In 2018, a total of 372 cases had been reported and entertained, which, on calculation comes close to Nu. 2.7 million. Similarly this year till date we have provided our services to 470 clients.
RENEW has been able to provide free services with support from many individuals and organizations in the form of donation, services and programs/projects. With the increasing cases of incidences in Domestic Violence and Sexual and Gender Based Violence in the country due to advocacy and accessibility to services, sustainability is visibly being challenged. RENEW, too, in the past with its enthusiastic volunteers initiated several fund raising program. This year too, RENEW with the assistance from the volunteers and in collaboration with Event Partners from India and Nepal is organizing the fund raising event. Thus, RENEW Mega Fair is organized to:
• Raise fund and the funds generated from the fair will be utilized for the continuations of wholesome services provided by RENEW which is vital for women and children in need especially the survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse.
• Provide platform to showcase the products created by women for economic, empowerment of women in Bhutan and the region.
• Support sustainability issues that we have through “Women’s fund”.
• Provide a demonstration of life skills that are of potential to be adapted by RENEW for our beneficiaries.
The proceeds from this Mega Fair will go a long way in supporting the sustainability of RENEW and its services and programs.
