Observing International Women’s day from 5th-8th March 2018.

             

Her Royal Highness Gyalsem Sonam Dechan Wangchuck graced the   International Women’s (IWD) Day event in Thimphu on 8th March, 2018.

Her Highness Gyalsem Sonam Dechan Wangchuck and Lyonpo Dorji Choden, Minister for Works & Human Settlement inaugurated 5 Guidelines of National Commission for Women & Children -1) SoP on Case management for Women & Children in Difficult 2) Guidelines for Accreditation and Management of Shelter Homes for Women & Children in Difficult Circumstances 3) Media Guidelines for Reporting on Women & Children 4) Guidelines for Accreditation of Service Providers. Her Royal Highness also inaugurated RENEW’s Consensus Building Facilitators Manual.

“Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives”, the theme for 2018 International Women’s Day aspires to empower women in all settings, rural and urban, and celebrate activists who endlessly work to realize equality of women’s rights across countries.

A three day pre programme workshop on Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) and Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) from 5-7th March was conducted leading up to IWD for services providers in Royal Bhutan Police, Armed Forces, Ministry of Health, Judiciary, Hospital, CSOs, youth groups among others. The aim of the workshop was to train and build capacities of different service providers to provide quality SRH services and particularly to pay attention on women’s SRH needs. Also this workshop brought together several service providers under a common platform, discussed and brainstormed crucial SRH challenges women face.

The IWD programme was a joint collaboration of RENEW with partners such as National Commission for Women & Children (NCWC), Royal Bhutan Police (RBP), UNFPA and UN Women.
